Jeremiah’s Birds, Jesus’ Words
July 8, 2018 Matthew 11:20-24 (p.966 /p.976)
See especially Jeremiah 8:7.
Even the stork in the sky
knows her appointed seasons,
and the dove, the swift and the thrush
observe the time of their migration.
But my people do not know
the requirements of the Lord.
The prophecies in this section of Jeremiah
are simply labelled the prophecies AGAINST
Judah and Jerusalem.
Hear now several versions. . .
Migratory birds!
God has place his people at the crossroads
of THREE continents.
The people of the Bible were not scientists.
When we read of animals in the Bible, often
one or several types may be intended.
Each of them KNOW WHEN they are supposed
to MIGRATE. . .they know the TIMES.
The bird’s survival depends on it.
God’s words of judgment are
. but My people know not the judgment of the Lord.
Jeremiah’s point is reflected by Jesus
in Matthew 11:
“prophetic oracles of DOOM.”
The doom is the RESULT of the
people’s own response.
See Luke 12:56, Luke 19:44, John 8,
Mark 12:24.
Just as Sodom was condemned, these
towns’ people WILL BE CONDEMNED.
It isn’t punishment. It is a result of their action.
(Or lack of response to Jesus/Messiah/God.)
If Matthew 27:25 is what someone wants,
that is the way it will be.
The good part? ”Come to me. . .Come to me all. . .”
(Matthew 11:28, John 10:10, John 3:16-17, John6:68
Does anyone want to live. . .listen to Jesus. . .
