What Jesus Has Done for You (Matthew 28:5-10)

April 8, 2018 The 2nd Sunday of Easter
Matthew 28:5-10
Compare Matthew 28:7 with Mark 16:7
Jesus wanted to meet the disciples again
after the resurrection in Galilee.
Luke and John do not take notice of these
instructions. However, John gives us more
information about a meeting in Galilee.
Remember: it is okay to ask.
Has this happened to you?
If someone lies about a relationship,
what happens to that relationship?
Peter was told it would happen.
Why did Peter cry? He was sad that it DID
happen? Probably yes.
And Pastor suggests that Jesus knew Peter
Better than Peter did.
The word comes back to Peter on that
Easter morning. . .Jesus is alive and he
wants to see you all—including you, too, Peter.
Jesus isn’t forsaking the relationship(s).
Jesus has forgiven Peter or. . .Jesus already
planned to forgive Peter. Jesus had said.
(Matthew 26: 31-32)
Despite Peter’s denial of the relationship
—there is still a relationship.
Notice that Jesus STILL WANTS Peter to do
the work that Jesus called Peter to do
(John 21: 15-18).
How is this relationship possible after the denial?
Forgiveness.
Jesus knew and STILL wanted that relationship.
Peter’s sin was terrible. So was Paul’s (1 Timothy 1:15).
Jesus encouraged personal forgiveness.
(Luke 22:34)
Not only did Jesus say we should forgive
but Jesus Himself demonstrated it.
Jesus gave instructions in at least two instances:
Matthew 5:23-24 and Matthew 18:15-17.
So, even if your attempt fails—Jesus instructs
us to go AGAIN.
But you don’t quit on the relationship.
But this isn’t about what you should do.
This is about what’s been done for you.
You are likewise forgiven. You are forgiven it all
—personally by Jesus.
Jesus knows. Jesus forgives.
Jesus wants a relationship with you
—even more than you know. Amen.
