Matthew 4:21-25
Today’s message is about the Bible.
What the Bible says to the seriously ill
AND THOSE WHO LOVE THEM.
ONE response to serious illness is the
Lord’s healing. Jesus AND the Apostles
are shown, several times, healing.
The Bible states and Jesus affirmed,
The Messiah would come healing
(Isaiah 61:1-2, Luke 4:18-19)
. . .even the broken hearted!
Today’s reading? Jesus healed them all!
NO EXCEPTIONS!
But is miraculous healing the only way?
No.
At DCC we believe that Jesus can heal
but we also believe in modern medicine
and what it can provide—so we recommend
that you follow your doctor’s instructions.
MORE IMPORTANTLY, we pray that those
who are sick CALL upon the Lord.
So after the Bible says “seek the Lord”
(Deuteronomy 4:29, I Kings 22:5, I Chronicles
16:10-11, Psalm 14:2, Isaiah 55:6, Acts 15:17)
what does the Bible say to those who are seriously ill.
The Bible states that your illness is not your
sin’s fault.
This has to be said.
Even the faithful may feel guilty. Faithful people
WILL point figures (see the book of Job).
But sins don’t explain illness.
So, we, as Christians, can say, “I am sorry.”
“ I am sorry that you are sick.”
Despite some reasoning, faithfulness does not
PREVENT illness.
Absence from worship/the table makes one
susceptible to illness [1 Corinthians 11:30 ]
but faith is no guarantee of health.
(See Matthew 9:2)
So, does that mean that EVERY person of faith
will be healed?
THAT conclusion does not logically follow.
Here is what we KNOW.
Go to Jesus. . .get yourself in Jesus’ presence.
Do we need the right words to get healed? NO.
But put your life in Jesus’ hands.
Peace was what Jesus said to the disciples
. . .more than once. (Luke 24:36, John 16:33,
John 20:19, (repeated) John 20:21, John 20:26
And John 14 27.)
Remember how valuable we are to the Lord.
(Psalm 34:18, and Jesus died FOR US.)
Remember 2 Corinthians 4:16.
Remember John 14:1-3.
Give it all to Jesus, trust Jesus. . .
and then Jesus can take you where you want to go.
Amen.
