Jesus, the Future, and You (Matthew 24:35-51)
Gary McManus, 01/30/2022Part of the God's New Year series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
Jesus, the Future, and You Matthew 24:35-51
Check out Joel Osteen, “Choose to be Happy”.
Questions about the future? Jesus’ disciples had them. (Luke 24: 6) AND, we have the Book of Revelation.
Don’t miss Matthew 24:35; no matter WHAT happens in the future, Jesus’ words remain. They are just as valuable now as then and will be. Jesus’ words are valuable for you today. (and tomorrow)
Chapter 24 of Matthew records words of Jesus when Jesus was in Jerusalem for the Passover festival (Palm Sunday, Matthew 21). Jesus, commenting on the wonder of the Temple Mount buildings, states that they will be taken down. They were, in 70 A.D. (C.E.). (Matthew 24:2)
But it would not be the end of all things. NO ONE KNOWS WHEN that will be (Matthew 24:6).
Jesus’ first statement, “watch out that no one deceives you. . .”
What about end time prophecy preachers (available from streaming or Youtube)?
Pastor’s old professor said. . .”Be careful, those who are married to the present will soon be widowed.”
Are the preachers deceiving their hearers to claim that all the current events they mention are somehow tied to God’s Word? To many people, the word “soon” means soon, not fifty years from now.
Jesus warned against false Messiahs. (Matthew 24:26) They were (Acts 5:36-37). They are (David Koresh?). And they shall be.
Then Jesus told the faithful what they should be doing. . . (Matthew 24:45-49, see Also Mt. 25))
--doing what Jesus calls us to do. . .we, Jesus’ servants.
Jack Van Impe, Died: January 18, 2020 (aged 88)
explained current events signs of the end. . . and did so for 50 years. Is that deceptive? How soon is SOON?
Jack Van Impe wanted people to seek Jesus.
So did Jesus. But Jesus did not point to signs of the
end as a reason to seek him.
Jesus talked about the uncertainty of life.
(Luke 13:1-5, Luke 13:22-25) Jesus’ call to repentance was more in line with Isaiah 55:6.
Jesus did not want anyone to perish (John 3:16).
“Why do Christians always talk like the end of the
world is near but don’t act like it?”
Good question.
Apostle Paul’s people in Thessalonica took a wrong
direction (2 Thessalonians 3:10).
See Harold Camping, Dami Mission,
Jesus: . ..not how soon will Jesus return. . .
(Matthew 24:30) BUT RATHER, what if you DON”T SEE the Son of Man return in your lifetime?
What if you thought soon meant soon and you
have waited for 60 years or more? Jesus gave the answer: keep doing what the Master gave you to do.
So, here is Pastor’s problem, if anyone sees the Bible prophecy being played out NOW and Jesus does NOT return, have we been deceived? Or have we damaged the integrity of God’s word?
{Are we the boy who cried wolf?)
Jesus tried to prevent Harold Camping and the Dami Mission.
Matthew 24:12 ; It is true that the days of Noah were evil and Jesus said, wickedness is multiplied, men’s love will grow cold. And in the days of Noah, people were going about their daily lives. AND THAT is the plan.
We may pray, “O Lord, come! “ (maranatha) (Revelation 22:20)
We will have to account for our actions when the Master DOES return, WHENEVER the Master returns. See Matthew 25:34-36.
Amen.
