Are You a Doomsday Prepper (Matthew 24:9-13)
Gary McManus, 01/23/2022Part of the The End is Near series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
January 23, 2022 Matthew 24:9-13
Christian, are you interested in the future?
The Disciples were interested in the future. (Luke 24:6)
Jesus’ words (Luke 24:7): “It is not for you to know the
times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.”
And then Jesus told them about the immediate future. .
(Luke 24:8).
The future and the Book of Revelation.

Notice, Jesus did not instruct the disciples to make
any preparations for doomsday. Right?
Is anyone in the Bible told to prepare for the end?
Pastor guesses that the televangelists mean well:
“God knows what is happening and God has shared in
His Word, so don’t worry, don’t be afraid, and you can
believe in the Bible”
The question asked:
Is the world going to end in 2022?
The Book Of Revelation: a message for the churches.
(Revelation 1:1)
“Soon” means what?
What are the believers to do? (Revelation 13:10)
“Keep to Jesus with patient endurance.”
The word “prepare” does not appear in the New
Testament as preparing for the end. The word “warning”
shows up only as a warning to stay with the truth of the Gospel.
Jesus said: “ . .but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved."
Matthew 24:13 and Matthew 24:46
The Apostle: 2 Peter 3:17:
“. . .beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked,
fall from your own steadfastness.
What were the churches in Revelation doing and NOT DOING?
A: Hard work and perseverance, (not preparation). They have rooted
out falsehood and remained with the truth.
Ephesian church failure? A:You have forsaken the love you had at first.
Remember the Apostle Paul’s prayer: “grow in love.” (Philippians 1)
To the church or churches of Smyrna: “Do not be afraid. . .”
Prison, persecution, maybe death are coming.
No preparation for that is suggested nor will their faithfulness prevent
Satan’s attack. The answer: “be faithful” (Revelation 2:10).
Christians: evil does exist and you find evil on earth.
But that doesn’t make God’s creation evil.
The creation was good and is good although sin has affected
everything including the natural world (Hosea 4:3).
But creation is NOT EVIL even if people participate in evil.
Jesus asked if we will be found doing what Jesus gave us to do? (Matthew 24:46)
Don’t prepare, persevere. Amen.
