Did You Forget to Remember (John 15:9-10)

Memory is a miracle of the human brain.
Human memory has three facets or aspects:
sensory memory, short-term memory and long-term
memory.
The word “remember” is in your pew Bible 231 times
(NIV). The RSV has 300 citations.
How is your sensory memory?
The Bible speaks of our Lord God having memory. . .
Genesis 8:1, more importantly Genesis 9:15.
See Isaiah 43:25.
God states clearly that God is NOT going to remember
some of the things we want to forget.
See Luke 24 when an angel—the messenger of the Lord
says, REMEMBER?
What other words of Jesus do you remember?
All of them?!
Do you remember John 15:9?
DO you remind yourself every morning?
God loves us all FULLY.
AND God loves us all uniquely.
In Pastor’s church growing up, it seemed that
at the communion table, Jesus’ death was emphasized.
But was Jesus’ death tragic? Not at all.
Luke 24; the disciples on the road to Emmaus:
the two disciples LOOKED DISCOURAGED (Luke 24:17). Jesus’ first response; Luke 24:25; “enter into His Glory”. Those disciples don’t act discouraged after that.
Pastor’s church growing up;
we seemed to often focus on the blood instead
of the salvation that the blood was spilled to gain for us.
If Jesus went to Jerusalem not knowing what would
happen to him there, then the whole report takes on a picture of tragedy.
Jesus was determined to go to Jerusalem KNOWING
what would happen.
(See 1 Corinthians 11:23, 1 Corinthians 11:25)
“In remembrance of me.”
--remember the covenant festival meal
--remember the cup of this NEW covenant
--remember it was for you and for many
--remember it is for your salvation and to free you
from slavery (which would be slavery to Satan)
Our Lord Jesus provided for our sensory memory also, did He not?
Why not be glad at the communion table?
Remember, remember, remember. . .
Will you remember that today at our Lord’s table?
Why do we have Veterans day EVERY YEAR?
Why celebrate Thanksgiving EVERY YEAR?
The Puritans believed that God was at work in the
help the natives provided—God’s providential love.
Why, every year? So we don’t forget.
God even warned the Israelits (Deuteronomy 8:14)
SEVEN times!
The Passover Festival meal helped Israel remember.
The Lord’s table helps us remember; God’s love,
Jesus’ love—they won our salvation for us—
out of love! Amen
