Daleville Christian Church, be reminded as to who
you are. The affirmations of our faith each week
remind us of what we believe.
We desire to be followers of Jesus.
Some say, we want to be more like Jesus.
Why? Because that is what Jesus wants for us.
(Jesus says “Follow me” almost thirty times.)
How do we do that?
How do we become BETTER followers of Jesus?
1. prayer—spending time with the Lord on your
own and/or in church worship.
Jesus’ followers in their churches require that we
utilize God’s Word.
2. We turn to God’s Word again and again. . .and again.
It is important to remind ourselves of that.
Why remind ourselves to turn to God’s Word?
DCC is a church that takes the Bible seriously.
A Bible based church or a Bible reading church?
Americans value practicality and efficiency.
Isn’t that good? Not necessarily. (Remember World War 2?)
Americans in claiming to desire practicality and efficiency, don’t read like they used to.
Some people question reading books or long articles at all. (As one young man once said, if it isn’t moving, I can’t see it. (!))

A brief sound byte takes less time than trying to
find out if it is true. (Romans 1:25, John 14:6)
Is the truth easy to come by? Plenty of people say “no”.
Most Americans decide for themselves what is
practical and efficient.
Do you eat breakfast?

Do Americans care about their health?
Why should they ever read the Bible?
Why don’t people go to worship in the 21st Century?
(the present pandemic being an exception)
Fewer Americans attend worship than since 1940.
Because it isn’t practical.
This preacher agrees if you mean “efficient”/”this world”. Worship is about the bigger world including the spiritual world. Philippians 2:10 and Revelation 5:13) That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; SO IS , ALSO, READING THE BIBLE.
Three times (John 6) Jesus is the “Bread of heaven.” (John 6:51)
Jesus also answered Satan himself (Matthew 4:4):
“It is written, ‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.’”
Any PRACTICAL and efficient take-aways from
today’s message. Yes.
1. If you won’t work for your own health, find out why.
2. Eat breakfast. But bread alone is not sufficient at breakfast.
(Matthew 4:4) Amen.
