Today’s Bible reading not a usual
place to talk about God’s Love—but it
is THERE: goodness, patience, tolerance
and more.
See different versions/translations.
Sermon August 18, 2019: "One way to love more
is to understand and learn how much you are
loved by God in Jesus.
It could be said that one way to know more about
God is to know about love. (See Romans 1:21,
Romans 1:25)
We want to know the truth about God. . .
so we need to know more about love.
We begin talking about human love.
Then we can talk about God's love.
Then we can talk about Christian love.
It will take more than one sermon.
Many people experience what we call
romantic love. . .
Lerner and Lowe’s “On the Street Where
You Live”, My Fair Lady
Or how about an older description. . .
The ecstatic AND painful experiences of love
exist across cultures and across time.
It is human and in the brain (Physiology)
Here are more signs that we were made for love
—even God’s love.
Most theologians begin a discussion of God’s love
by talking about nature—creation.
See Francis Chan, Crazy Love.
Therefore, God has taken the initiative to love.
God moved FIRST to love YOU.
God’s love. . .pretty amazing. . .awesome. . .
Look at some of love’s components. . .
(1 Corinthians 13)
Love is patient but does call for decision.
(Luke 13:1-5, John 3:16)
God’s love is kind, Ephesians 4:32, Romans 5:8.
God’s kindness is HOW we become new
creatures in Christ. Transformation may begin
when we turn to the Lord for the salvation He
moved first to give to us. That is how much the Lord loves us.
God’s love is not self-seeking.
Our Lord doesn’t want something from us
—the Lord wants something FOR us.
Our Lord does not NEED anything. The only
reason that God loves us is that God WANTS
to love us.
Our God is crazy about you.
Jesus said, I know my own. . .(John 14:10)
Country singer Tim McGraw sang
“I like it, I love it”, written by
Jeb Stuart Anderson, Steve Dukes, and Mark Hall.
More next week on crazy love.
You don’t have to feel it.
God demonstrated love.
We are to demonstrate love.
(1 Corinthians 13) Amen.
