The Second Sunday in Lent; Prayer
The Holy Spirit has spoken through
YOU to help choose the sermon sources.
Americans do pray: 79% in the past three months
At least ONCE in three months?!
Not quite DEVOTED to prayer,
is it? (Acts 2:42).
Another statistic of interest. . .
fewer Americans are turning to prayer
for stress relief. (See Luke 22:44)
Pagans also pray—so. . .
to WHOM are you praying?
Jesus mentioned pagans and their prayer.
(Matthew 6:7). Pagans made it hard to pray. . .
Jesus called it BABBLING.
Jesus said just call God daddy or dada. . .
OUR daddy.
See Jesus removing barriers to prayer?
Jason Frenn, a missionary evangelist and
author of The Seven Prayers God Always Answers.
He introduces Jesus’ question (Mark 10:51).
God knows our needs BEFORE we ask. . .
but Jesus was NOT suggesting that therefore prayer
was not necessary.
Hand outs available from Ash Wednesday Service:
God’s names/titles and attributes (use for prayer).
Jesus asked another time, "What do you want?"
(John 1:38, Matthew 20:21, Matthew 20:32)
and once, when addressing a sick man,
"Do you want to get well?" (John 5:6)
The Apostle Paul wrote that he pleaded
three times with the Lord. (2 Corinthians 12:8)
Jason Frenn, p. XIV: God cares MORE
than you think and YES, you should share
your heart with the Lord. . . .
“there is hardly a conversation with God you
shouldn’t have. . .”
The man born blind was healed—technically the man
was not healed since he was born that way.
Jesus asked, “Do you believe in the Son of Man?”
The blind man is given physical sight and
spiritual sight. Which is the bigger miracle?
Are we reluctant to share wishes from our hearts?
“What do you want me to do for you?”
Jesus DID ask that question. Amen.
