To the Glory of God (1 Timothy 5:17-21)

October 7, 2018 Pastor Appreciation Month
1 Timothy 5:17-21
The Apostle Paul became a model
for preachers and ministry.
The Apostle supported himself as a
worker in cloth for tents and sails.
Paul DID receive support from
congregations.[See the following verses:
Philippians 4:14-18,
2 Corinthians 11:8-9,1 Corinthians 4:12,
1 Thessalonians 2:9. The word “received”
in Philippians 4:18 is often used as the
word for receiving a receipt or debt settlement.]
The word traditionally translated as
“double honor” = double compensation =
“paid double” , “paid twice as much”
The honor or double honor is due because
of the duties. (Remember James 3:1)
Recall that Jesus’ ministry was supported
by benefactors (Luke 8:3).
Pastor Appreciation is right for every congregation
since the honor is due because the weighty
responsibilities the Pastor carries.
“Things My Mother Never told me about.”
The book is entitled, The State of Pastors:
How Today's Faith Leaders are Navigating
Life and Leadership in an Age of Complexity.
Almost every Pastor needs greater support in some way.
One thing that Pastor Appreciation Month
does for Pastor and congregation is to
celebrate the victories of working together
for the Kingdom.
Christians should celebrate every victory
—those victories are for God’s glory!
Pastors want congregations to know
—that the Pastor is human. . .
Nazareth (John 1:43-46)? Galilee? (John 7:41)
Amos, a prophet? (Amos 7:14). .
Lazarus is raised from the dead
for the purpose of God’s glory. (John 11:4)
American Christians don’t want the
Pastor to be human.
We want great things and we want to
believe that great things only come
from great people.
If Moses was human (and a murderer)
and God used him, are we afraid that
God might use us for His glory?
David, son of Jesse and youngest son of Jesse,
was God’s choice. (1 Samuel 16:7)
We cry to the Lord with fervent prayers
to send help. And under our breath we pray
that we NOT be the help that the Lord is sending.
With God nothing is EVER impossible.
(Luke 1:37 in several versions. Also,
Jesus said the same thing, Mark 10:27,
and Jeremiah, 32:27)
Why don’t we want to BE the miracle?
Why do we resist God
using us for God’s glory?
(See 1 Samuel 16:10)
Jesus did not say that your Pastor’s faith
could move mountains. . (Matthew 17:20)
Jesus said YOUR faith could move mountains.
It’s a miracle of God!
So what will God do with you?
What will the Lord do with Daleville Christian Church?
Nothing is impossible with God!
. . .with God in you. . .with YOUR faith.
It is to the glory of God. Amen.
