Life With Christ in Five Verses (2 Thessalonians 2:13-17)
Gary McManus, 10/19/2014Part of the Life With Jesus is Better series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
Here at DCC we want you connected.
--connect to Jesus
--connect to Jesus’ church
--connect through worship
Church is a connection to the TEACHING of the Bible.
Church is a connection to the teaching of the church.
The worship is also a part of that teaching.
WORSHIP services are an EXPRESSION
of what we believe.
That doesn’t make us righteous.
Jesus makes righteous by his blood.
We want to be Biblical.
We can’t be more righteous—no one can be.
The Bible recognizes an OLD life and
a NEW LIFE in Christ.
Live the old life or live the new life.
Grow in love--that is new life.
Do not grow in love--that is the old life.
We at DCC want you connected and today’s message
reminds us as to WHY staying connected is so important.
This brief passage is a SUMMARY of the life of a believer!
The life of a believer--point to these few verses.
First, verse 15: “stand firm and hold fast to the teachings. . .
we passed on to you, whether by word of mouth or by letter.”
Why do we need to stand firm?
If we do not stand firm, we can get knocked off Jesus’ way.
The Holy Spirit and the church (the Holy Spirit is in the
Church, yes?) –both are the GPS for the believer.
(The Word should also guide the believer but sometimes
Believers get too focused on parts of the Bible instead
Of seeing the bigger picture. )
Jesus CALLED you.
Jesus called the disciples.
Jesus called you to new life and for heaven.
SANCTIFYING work=
SANCTIFICATION =
life with Jesus is WAY better than life without Jesus
This sanctifying work is the NEW LIFE that you may
start living today and it is the NEW LIFE that you can
begin living AGAIN today.
Old ways, especially the bad ones or negative ones,
In Christ, get left off, replaced, or repurposed.
Example: anger
DCC has been hearing the teaching of the church
since May this year.
The necessity of the TEACHING: friend in a cult.
Today’s verses have also provided and often are used
as the final blessing. Amen
