When the Leadership Changes (Titus 1:4-5)

Soon DCC votes on the Elder’s r recommendation
for a new Lead Pastor here at DCC.
This sermon is not about that decision, whenever that
Decision is made. The larger issue is, in part, DCC.
What will DCC do when a new lead Pastor comes?
(A new Lead pastor has to come here eventually.)
Will DC let the next Lead Pastor lead?
Personal preferences or the mission of Jesus?
1 Corinthians 10:33:” . . .not seeking my own good but
the good of many, so that they may be saved.”
What to do with “sacred cows”?
The Bible on retirement? Nothing, really.
But the Bible shows leave-taking.
Jesus: Acts 1:9, with preparation, Acts 1:3.
Jesus leave taking explained: John 16:7.
The Greek word “expedient/profitable”= “bring with”.
Jesus: “my leaving you brings something to you.”
Other translations/versions:
it is to your advantage that I go away;
it is for your benefit that I go away;
it is good for you that I go away;
Do you think the disciples were convinced?
Jesus could see and Jesus CAN see a better tomorrow.
Jesus came to give everyone a better tomorrow
—“Behold I make all things new.” Revelation 21:5.
The Bible speaks often of the old and the new.
Compare the present Pastor with old computer software.
Still have doubts? The disciples probably did too
When Jesus said that he was leaving AGAIN!
But Jesus reassured them:”your advantage”,
“for your benefit” , “good for you” .
How would the disciples know?
By being obedient to Jesus and the Holy Spirit.
How was that proven true? By Jesus’ mission.
(See the Book of Acts.)
The Apostle left Titus ON CRETE to do the things
that were left unfinished. There are things in Daleville
Pastor Gary leaved unfinished. The work is not done here.
The Elders together determined that they wanted
to find a Lead Pastor for the future.
The Elders are recommending and will continue to recommend
candidates for the future, no matter how the current vote
goes.
But the larger question is still--how will you respond to new
leadership for the future.
Remember our Lord Jesus said. . .
Mark 2:22: “No one pours new wine into old wine skins.
Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine
and the wine skins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine
into new wine skins.” See Revelation 21:5. Amen.
