A Multitude of the heavenly Host (Luke 2:8-16)
Gary McManus, 12/18/2022Part of the Christmas series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
Angels; all this season at DCC. angels= messenger
The angels bring what God has spoken.
The messages tell everyone what REALLY
is going on. What is really going on is that God IS involved. The angels explain that fact.
The best part is that God is trying to get things
done FOR US. The whole plan is for OUR benefit.
See notes at end.
Pastor fascinated with the idea of an angel army!
Pastor has preached on God as a strong tower.
Our God is a fortress. [See 2 Samuel 22:1-3,
Psalm 18:1-2]. Do we not sing it?
Joshua spoke the angel/commander (Joshua 5).
Then we read in Luke 2:13-14: “the heavenly host.”
God declares peace with the transgressors.
Since God has done the hard part of bringing about
the birth of Jesus, what do we have to do?
We are to accept it.
The angel announced: TO YOU is born. . .a SAVIOR!
Let heaven and nature sing; joy to the world!
Pastor David Jeremiah, (Why the Nativity) states:
“nothing could have been MORE UNEXPECTED.
How might the Pharisees have responded?
The shepherds respond the right way. . .
But Jesus would later say, the last would be first
(Matthew 20:16)
Pastor’s example; the shepherds were like this. . .
What would we call these shepherds? Lowlifes?
Undesirables? Heathens? Godless? Or just suspicious?
Do you “score yourself spiritually”? Don’t.
But even if you had a low point average with God,
God is destroying the scoreboard.
The last shall be first.
The shepherds heard and went to see.
Amen.

267+ times in the Old Testament
See Joshua 5:14, Genesis 32:1-2. Even in alternate
translations, the associations of the word are the military.
(Judges 5:20 and 1 Samuel 17:45)
See Psalms 24:7-14. Also see: Revelation 5:11, Revelation 12:7.
Perhaps other more military minded passages:
Ephesians 6:12, Colossians 2:15. 1 Peter 3:22.
