Honor All (1 Thessalonians 1:2-10)

October 9, 2022 1 Thessalonians 1:2-10
The Spiritual Support Team has looked at the possibility of additional appreciations for ministries at DCC. The answer was really obvious. DCC has an appreciation month.
The Spiritual Support Team has recommended a Ministries
Appreciation Month for October, 2022. That means that each of us will dedicate ourselves to thanking and appreciating individuals or work areas or committee members whose efforts
YOU want to celebrate.
Plenty of verses from God’s Word support this plan:
Romans 12:10, Romans 13:7, and more. Not sure?
1 Peter 2:17: Honor all.. Epaphrodi′tus was an example.
(Philippians 2:25). He is mentioned only ONCE.
First, gratitude. We, as followers of Jesus, are called by the Apostles to be grateful. The Apostles call us to be grateful for one another AND the Apostles demonstrated by example the giving of thanks to God for the members of the congregations.
1 Thessalonians 1:2: We give thanks to God always for y’all. (For) your work of faith and (your) labor of love and (your) steadfastness of hope in our Lord Jesus Christ.
Then see 1 Thessalonians 5: 12 & 13!
Is it not right for us to have a MinistrieS appreciation month?
The Apostle to the church in and around Ephesus:
Ephesians 1:16 actually verses 15 and 16.
Duke Divinity School, Durham, North Carolina version:
16 I do not cease to give thanks for y’all.
Oddly, 60 versions do NOT claim it!
But it is there in the Greek—plural!
More evidence of gratitude and thanksgivings for all in the congregations of the Apostles.
2 Thessalonians: REPEATED TWO TIMES!
2 Thessalonians 1:3, 2 Thessalonians 2:13
The Apostle is grateful TO OUR LORD for their faith
and for their love. . .. . .because. . .if you have all the gifts of the Holy Spirit, even in super abundance but don’t love. . .ya got nothin’,
The Apostle stated, without love, “I am nothin’.”
1 Corinthians 13:2
Check out Romans 12:10: “outdo one another in showing honor.”
The NLT states:
“take delight in honoring each other”
So. . .enjoy, even have fun in honoring those to whom honor is due. ( Romans 13:7 ) Amen.
Further:
(from Pastor Gary McManus)
DO you appreciate the music at DCC? It is time
to tell the musician. Do you appreciate the flowerbeds?
It is time to tell the flowerbed workers. Do you appreciate special events: meals, Fall Festival, VBS? It is time to tell the people who work for those events. And there is no reason to choose just one. Send a card or a gift to everyone! Bake cookies, a pie, a cake, cobbler, bread--whatever,
and drop it off to the minister in that work. DCC's bulletin has declared for decades that Pastor McManus ministers to the ministers. You know who the ministers are. (Check the annual reports.) Appreciate them formally, lavishly, simply, deliciously,
beautifully, thoughtfully. Appreciate them during October, 2022,
ministers/ministries appreciation month at DCC!
