November 21, 2021 2 Corinthians 6:16-18
This American Holiday of Thanksgiving looks
back to the Pilgrims. [Pilgrims = Protestant Separatists from the Church of England]
As violators of the rules of the official Church of England, they were persecuted.
They eventually came to America to worship freely
and escape persecution.
Joel Osteen is an American celebrity Pastor of the
largest Protestant church in America,
Lakewood Church in Houston,
--45,000 people attend worship every week
--Joel Osteen, author of 14 books, seven of which
His book “Your Best Life Now” has sold more than
100 million copies.
Plimoth Patuxet (once known as Plimoth Plantation)
is a living history museum in Plymouth, Massachusetts.
--It is a not-for-profit museum.
--Visitors may speak with interpreters of the English/
Pilgrim settlers and the Patuxet (native American)
people before 1627,
--90,000 educators and students visit Plimoth Patuxet Museums annually.
2020 marked the 400th Anniversary of the Pilgrims
landing in Massachusetts.
November 21, 2021, is the 400th Anniversary of what is known as “the first Thanksgiving”.
Agree with Joel Osteen?
Pastor can’t disagree with Joel Osteen,
but what is Joel Osteen talking about?
What did Jesus mean, “abundant life”?
Do I know the dream that God put
in my heart?
Is it different from my dreams?
Difficult seasons or death dealing circumstances?
The First Thanksgiving is hardly an American
success story.
If not for the pagan natives, the Christians would
not have survived.
Get my words going in the right direction?
What about the persecutions?
Did the Pilgrims r-i-s-k enough?
Did the Pilgrims not step out in faith?
What did the Pilgrim’s Pastor John Robinson
have to say?
“My Best Life Now” or
Jesus’ best life for you right now?
There is probably a time in everyone’s life when
we need to hear what Joel Osteen is saying. . .
to be encouraged, to be strengthened,
IF we are in truth on our Lord’s planned path
for us.
That our Lord “will graciously prosper our endeavors
according to the simplicity of our hearts therein.
--Pastor John Robinson
When we need some spiritual guidance, maybe we want to look at those spiritual survivors whose Thanksgiving we imitate and celebrate this Thursday.
