October 3, 2021 Pastor Appreciation Month
1 Corinthians 3:3-9
Pastor Appreciation IS Biblical. Never forget that.
This month the topic is: the Pastor, the Church, and
the next Pastor.
This is very important NOW:
1. This transition takes planning.
2. Many at DCC have not experience finding and securing a Pastor.
There is much to discuss:
--ministry today in the U.S.
--churches in the U.S.
--churches in Indiana
--things DCC can avoid
--things DCC can look forward to
The good news: we have some experience right here;
-- in DCC
--in the community
Book the Elders are reading;
Next: Pastoral Succession That Works, by William Vanderbloemen, Warren Bird
The book states that PLANNING is ESSENTIAL to a successful succession for the next Lead Pastor of DCC.
All denominations have their own process. DCC used to. But most churches have to have their own plan.
The Bible gives examples of transitions that were not
planned or not well-planned. The Bible warns:
don’t do that.
Not the Pastor’s problem?
See Philippians 2:4.
Jesus prepared the disciples TWICE for Jesus’
leave taking. . .
to go to the cross
to go to the Heavenly Father (Ascension)
Pastor has always wanted to help Jesus’ church.
The Apostle Paul wanted to help the churches in Corinth. Paul is distressed ( 1 Corinthians 1:11)
Divisions, not unity in Paul’s churches?
The Apostle just straight out asks them. . .1:13, Is Christ divided? . . .
For Paul it is this simple. There is one Jesus Christ.
There is one Holy Spirit. . .therefore those who are of the Holy Spirit through Jesus are also ONE, united.

Ever seen the film, “Support Your Local Sheriff”?
The Second Great Awakening (revival beginning around 1800)
started most of the churches in America: Methodist, Baptist,
Christian Churches.
“The Church’s One Foundation”, second verse:
“Her charter of salvation ONE LORD, ONE FAITH, ONE BIRTH.
Pastor wants you to want to be a part of Jesus’ church no matter who the lead Pastor is at DCC.
In the coming weeks we will talk about finding a Pastor for the ongoing mission of DCC.
The Apostle Paul’s reminds the churches in Corinth:
“Neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God who gives the growth. . .
For we are God's fellow workers. You are God's field, God's building.”
Amen.
