Acts 2:14-21 Dynamite Things God Does
Pentecost, Acts 2:11: “we hear them declaring the
‘mighty acts of God’.”
Luke’s mighty acts of God. . .
But in the 29th Chapter of Acts?
The continuing story of the triumph of Jesus in the world. Satan is still on the run (though we think him strong). Satan will only go down swinging.
Today let’s review the mighty acts of God in
in our own lives.
Other Bible versions probably show these words:
the wonders of God
mighty works of God
miracles God has done
wonderful/great things God has done
God’s deeds of power.”
The word “miracle” is a Latin based word.
The Bible was written in Hebrew and Greek.
Acts 2:22: Peter said, Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by dynamite acts (miracles), wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know.
The Book of Acts itself uses the word signs 11 times.
Jesus said to the Apostles (Acts 1:8): “ But you will receive [dynamite] [dynamite power] power when the Holy Spirit comes on you. . .”
Wycliff translators: works of power, and wonders, and tokens
Acts 2:22:
“which God did among you through him”
All point to the Heavenly Father who sent Jesus.
Jesus did dynamite things because of God
We can also DO DYNAMITE THINGS BECAUSE
WE WERE GIVEN DYNAMITE in the Holy Spirit.
(same root word)
Although modern Christians focus on “miracles”
these mighty acts, signs and wonders are not the
ONLY way people come to know our Lord Jesus.
Here are other ways people come to know Jesus:
(in no particular order)
1. Jesus as teacher / wisdom
2. Jesus as Savior / also a "mighty work"
3. Jesus as healer / also a "mighty work"
4. Jesus as guide / shepherd
5. Jesus as friend / You are the beloved.
6. Jesus through unexplainable event: vision. dream, speech, NDE, etc.
Which of these seem to really mean something to you? What words might you say to talk about this experience of Jesus in your life?
Saint Augustine wrote about them.
Pastor has shared some of his own life.
Are those worth retelling—you be the judge.
They might mean more to you than me.
Consider the mighty acts of God.
Consider what the Lord has done for you.
Consider sharing something of those.
You have been given the power to do so.
(Acts 1:8. Acts 2:3-4, Romans 5:5) Amen.
