Last time: the delivery of the good news
of Jesus Christ, the Messiah.
--first from the angels—the messengers of God
--Jesus made this same good news message
his own message declaring that he, Jesus had
been sent from God with this message of good news, Isaiah 61:1-2 / Luke 4:18-19
Jesus said that he was from God, the Heavenly
Father.(John 8:16, but Jesus uses the phrase
“my Father” 40 times in John’s Gospel alone.)
Jesus came to spread this good news (Mark 1:38)
. . .and make disciples, so that disciples could make
disciples (Matthew 28:19) See also: Matthew 10:16,
Mark 6:7,Luke 9:2, Luke 10:3, John 13:20)
This sending continued (Acts 5:18-20, Acts 8:26,
Acts 9, Acts 22:6ff, Acts 26:12ff. See also Galatians 1:1).
Ancient world important question—what is your source
of your information or WHO is the source.
It is still an important question.
Pastor has too many examples.
The Bible says that Jesus had this very same
discussion more than once.
(Matthew 12:22, Matthew 12:24, Matthew 12:27,
Matthew 21:23-27)
Jesus came from God
(John 1:14, John 6:38, John 8:42, John 13:3)
Even the demons know!
(Mark 1:34, Mark 5:7-8, Luke 4:34
To Jesus you must turn and
to Jesus you must give your trust.
In 21st Century America church people have
accepted non-denominational churches and
para church organizations. Their authority
must rest completely on God’s Word and
the Holy Spirit. But what if they fall away?
You have heard of these pastors/former pastors:
Jim Bakker, Jimmy Swaggart, Jim Jones.
And here is part of our American problem
. . .if enough people follow you or listen to you,
Americans consider that legitimate.
American Christians are to blame for Jim
Bakker’s success. No one asked enough questions.
As American Christians, we have an American problem.
How did Pastor’s hero pastors fall away?
Believe your Pastor, it is easy to do.
It is only a slight shift from focusing on the Pastor’s
message to focusing on the Pastor’s hearers.
Always focus on the message. (Acts 5:20, Acts 5:42)
Jesus asked: “What does it profit you if you gain
the whole world and lose your soul?
(Matthew 16:26, Mark 8:36, Luke 9:25)
Pastors: never stop proclaiming the good news.
Congregations: where is the speaker from?
Where is the Pastor from? Who sent the Pastor?
Who confirmed the Pastor?
Get a Pastor who is called and sent. Amen.
