We Will Also Live With Him
April 19, 2020 The Second Sunday of Easter
Matthew 16:24-26
The celebration of Easter continues.
How is the celebration of Jesus’ resurrection also
a celebration for us?
For the followers of Jesus,
Jesus’ resurrection is a hope and a future.(Romans 6:4)
(Also Acts 5:20).
We are new creatures. More than Homo Sapiens,
man thinking, we are Homo Fides, man faithful.
This life of the faithful ones leads to eternal life.
So, how do these faithful ones;
how do these new creatures LIVE?
Johnnie Moore, Honestly: Really Living
What We Say We Believe.
Jesus words, the Apostle’s words
and the church’s words are tough.
Sometimes, even good things
have to give way to God’s better things.
[See the Book of Jonah.]
Hard to accept? Yes. Jesus used the image of the cross. (Luke 9:23)
How do you imagine the Apostle Matthew?
See Matthew 9:9.
Matthew’s book is the only place that records the event. If Matthew had other plans, they died that day.
During the Ebola outbreak in 2014, some volunteered to go and fight.
In our case, the Coronavirus has come to us.
Our medical professionals have to decide every day
when their shift comes up—do I go in today?
Do I put myself in harm’s way.
They respond to a higher calling—their profession.
THEY profess to be caregivers, medical caregivers.
Do you go to do what you profess?
You who call yourselves followers of Jesus.
NOT a call to worship during a pandemic!
DO you love others enough to REDUCE
other people’s risk of infection?
The government’s restrictions are temporary.
With the disease of Covid-19; risk of a permanent death. I will fight the disease.
But this teaching is MORE than
our present circumstances.
Do you love your neighbor? How?
2 Timothy 2:11:
“this is a trustworthy saying. . .”
Words in use in the churches of the Apostles.
From worship? A phrase heard over and over.
The Apostle repeats it in writing
—words they already know. . .
See also Philippians 3:10. Amen.
