Palm Sunday Luke 19:35-44
This moment on that day in Jerusalem that we
now call Palm Sunday is recorded.
Jesus wept over the city of Jerusalem as Jesus
knew how things were going to go.
Jesus would be rejected and a part of the consequences of that rejection (since Jesus wasn’t the Messiah many were looking for) would be the destruction of the city at the hands of the Romans.
That is exactly what happened in 70 AD (CE).
Jesus was fully God AND fully human; Jesus wept.
(See also John 11:35)
Our Lord Jesus experienced grief and tears.
A little history lesson:
Israel, Judah, Egypt, Assyria, and Babylonia.
Also: the Babylonian Army, King Nebuchadnezzar
(Nebachadrezzer) .
Sieges: 2 Kings 6:25, 2 Kings 24:10, then
2 Kings 25:1-2, also Jeremiah 52.
The results of sieges: Lamentations 4:9, Jeremiah 19:9.
The Bible may be thousands of years old, but it
relates to us!
Are we not besieged by the Coronavirus?
As mentioned in an earlier sermon, at times the imminent danger and destruction RELENTED!
(The word relent/relented in the Bible, 32+9, NIV.
That is what we are praying for.
The only defense we all have against the virus
is prevention, especially the prevention of spread.
I urge you to do your part.
As to the defenses of the city and our God?
Our God is a strong tower. (Proverbs 18:10, Psalm 61:3)
Nahum 1:7, Psalm 27:1, Isaiah 43:2)
Understand what is being stated.
For Jesus also said plainly to the disciples:
“In the world you have tribulation. . .”
(John 16:23)
See also John 16:20 and John 14:27.
Seek the Lord. (Bible: about 50 times)
Pray (Bible: over 300 times)
Draw near: (Bible: 4+ times)
Forsake: (Bible: about 30 times both ways;
do not forsake God/God has not forsaken you.
Amen
