1 Corinthians 7:1-2
Sex in America.
Things are messed up in this country and
everyone knows it.
A fundamental Bible truth:
sexual relations are about RELATIONSHIP.
(Genesis 2:23-25, Genesis 3:7-10)
But, in America, people don’t want sex to be
about relationships.
Just listen to the news headlines. . .
All of these news stories have to do with sex.
None of these stories has anything to do with
any human relationship of caring or love or
devotion or responsibility. . .but there was always sex.
Victimless crimes—NO!
We have made some sexual activity illegal.
It should be illegal. In the Roman society of
the Apostle Paul’s day, those activities were
NOT illegal.
The Apostle Paul’s instructions. . .sex is good
in a marriage.
Some pagan philosophies thought the body was
evil—and a gateway for evil. Some thought it best
to deny the body—don’t have sex EVEN in
marriage.
Paul stated that Jesus came in the flesh.
How hard it was for some Greeks and Romans
to accept that (sine they were taught that
the flesh was evil).
It made things confusing in Paul’s churches.
Some misunderstood Paul—he writes to them
to straighten them out.
The Bible says the mess up was in the beginning. . .
Genesis chapter 3
The so called sexual revolution in the 1960s and
1970s in this country tried to teach us that sex is natural. The great theologians of the church
would argue that the last time that sex was natural
was IN the GARDEN of EDEN.
Once tossed out of Eden, sex was never natural again. There would be shame, embarrassment, maybe fear.
The idea of free sex without relationships
is in our advertising. . .our products. . .
entire industries and businesses
(prostitution is legal in Nevada).
Scientific research is dedicated to it.
So, what can WE do?
It is up to us.
We uphold the standard of sex in marriage
as an important part of the marriage relationship
—created by God to BE good—intended FOR
our good by a loving God.
Remembering that sex is a gift. Sex is not a necessary
part of any relationship. Jesus is the example.
Jesus loved all—chastely.
