Of Much More Value (Luke 12:22-26)

June 23, 2019; The Second Sunday After Pentecost
Luke 12:22-26 (p.1031 /p. 1044)
Today’s message is inspired by this week’s
DCC VBS 2019 theme—animals! animals! animals!
Animals are all through the Bible (can we say they
run all through the Bible? Ha.)
Yet, our culture continues to lose touch with the
animals—even the animals that more directly affect
our lives.
Many children have to be taught about our own
food sources.
Many families know little about how
TO PREPARE food for the dinner table.
So, Bible lessons are lost—parts of the Word of
God are lost to those who know so little about
animals.
Jesus said: “Consider the ravens. . .”
Which can be translated
Look at [Consider; Think of] the ·birds
(says Matthew’s gospel)
Ravens are especially mentioned by Luke
and Luke’s sources. . .today we explore that
lesson.
.Jesus said: They don’t ·plant [sow] or ·harvest [reap],
they don’t have storerooms or barns, but God feeds them.
And you are worth much more than birds.
--Luke 12:24
I AM MORE VALUABLE THAN
THESE BIRDS THAT OUR GOD CARES FOR!
The raven (Hebrew: ????; Koine Greek: ???a?)
is the first species of bird to be mentioned in the
Bible (Genesis 8:6-7).
Ravens are in the Corvidae family of birds:
includes the crows, ravens, rooks, jackdaws, jays,
magpies, and others. Often referred to as simply
the crow family. There are over 120 species.
There is no consistent difference between crows and
ravens.
There are between 8 -10 different species of raven
in the area of the Holy Land.
Any special reason for ravens?
Leviticus 11:5 and Deuteronomy 14:14 state that
those birds are unclean as a food source.
Therefore, the ravens are valuable because God says
they are valuable.
Other ways to say that. . .
Jesus would demonstrate how much value you are to the Heavenly Father.
Redemption is basically a trade. . .item for item is traded.
Or the item desired for the price the buyer is willing to pay.
Galatians 3:13: Christ—the Messiah, redeemed us.
Titus 2:14 is clear: "Jesus gave Himself for us to redeem us."
"YOU WERE BOUGHT WITH A PRICE." (1 Corinthians 6:20)
1 Peter 1:18-19: redeemed= to release on receipt of a ransom= to buy out.
Our God is buying. God never haggled the price. God gave God’s only
begotten son to get you back. (John 3:16)

I AM MORE VALUABLE THAN THESE
BIRDS THAT OUR GOD CARES FOR!
Amen.
