In Quietness Prayer (Romans 12:3-12)

One more message on the topic of prayer. . .
ALWAYS notice the obvious:
Jesus prayed. (Luke 5:16)
Jesus prayed. . .and Jesus was God!
Consider this “self-talk” idea when we are
reminded to “pray constantly” or be
“be constant IN prayer”.(1 Thessalonians 5:17,
Acts 1:14, Ephesians 6:18, Colossians 4:2,
1 Thessalonians 1:2, 3:10, 2 Thessalonians 1:11,
2 Timothy 1:3).
Jesus’ “Lord’s Prayer” was/is a GUIDE to us.
Notice that petitions were not a large part of that prayer.
American Christians usually think of petitions as
the greatest part of our prayers.
Americans tend to pray way too much like
four year old children. . .
Hear Isaiah 30, verse 15:
“This is what the Sovereign Lord,
the Holy One of Israel, says:
In repentance and rest is your salvation,
in quietness and trust is your strength.”
And then comes the prophet Isaiah’s rebuke
“. . . but you would have none of it.”
This verse is about trust and in what or
in whom do we place our trust.
A trust that helps us feel secure as when driving.
Apply this to prayer. God’s presence can be enough
for many of us—to calm our hearts.
Worship CAN provide a re-focus on the one in
whom we trust.
Jesus prayed in the garden of Gethsemane
facing arrest, abuse, trial and death.
Yet Jesus can pray, Heavenly Father, you love me.”
(John 17:23)
You might even have MANY THINGS
to pray about. . .
but you don’t have to. . .See James 4:8
Instead of holding hands, we can LIFT hands
(1 Timothy 2:8)
or put our hands together, or fold them together.
Is it possible to waste time in prayer?
. . .If we would devote ourselves to know the Lord?
If we seek the Lord?
[See Ephesians 1:17, Philippians 3:8,
Colossians 1:10, 2 Peter 3:18]
Ephesians 1:17
I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus
Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the
Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you
may know him better. Amen.
