Matthew 23:37-39
a lament: special sort of poem. The Book
of Lamentations in the Bible is made up
of laments. They are meant to express
sorrow but also to express unshakable faith.
Jesus’ words express love and compassion
for the people of Jerusalem.
The leadership of Jesus’ people, the Jews
—and not all the leaders—but some
contested Jesus.
[Christians should love Jesus’ people
as Jesus did and does. ]
Let no one misread Acts 2, especially
Acts 2:23 and then 2:41!
It was some of the leaders who helped
to stir up the crowds to cry “crucify him.”
(Matthew 27:20, Mark 15:9-13, John 19:6-7)
Jesus loves the people—still.
Jesus told the disciples it would ALL happen.
The truth of Jesus’ predictions did not affect
Jesus’ compassion for his own people.
Matthew 23:38; are the Jews forsaken?
W.D. Davies says “No” and so do the Apostles.
Here we return to the topic of prayer. . .
The Apostle PRAYS for his people. . .
Romans 10:1, 10:18-19, 21 quoting
Isaiah 65:2.
And remember the fear in Elijah’s prayer
(1 Kings 19:10, Romans 11:3 ff)
Jesus will offer, at his crucifixion,
forgiveness to those who are crucifying him.
(Luke 23:34)
Dave Earley, The 21 most effective prayers
of the Bible.
Jason Frenn,The Seven Prayers God
ALWAYS ANSWERS claims that the prayer
for salvation is one of those always answered
prayers.
Anthony DeStafano
The Prayers God Always Says Yes To:
We often experience God as saying NO
to our prayers.
Desteffano argues there must be prayers
that the Lord always says yes to.
Philippians 4:6
Don’t worry about anything, but in everything,
through prayer and petition with thanksgiving,
let your requests be made known to God.
Jesus said. . .ask, seek, knock. . .(Matthew 7:7,
Luke 11:9).
Set your minds on things above.
(Colossians 3:1-2)
It may indeed well be true. . .
the Lord is more willing to bless us
with THOSE things above
than WE are ready to receive.
Amen.
