Can You Hear? (Mark 7:31-37)
Gary McManus, 03/31/2019Part of the Prayer series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
Mark 7:31-37
Pastor’s problem and how he solved it.
Today: Jesus healed a man’s hearing.
“The deaf hear.” –Isaiah 29:18, Isaiah 42:18,
Matthew 11:5, Mark 7:37
Too Busy NOT to Pray . . .
Are we too BUSY to hear?
Would we know if we heard?
See 1 Kings 19:9-12.
Vs 12: And after the earthquake a fire,
but the Lord was not in the fire.
And after the fire the sound of a low whisper.
The Lord is transmitting his message(s).
We have receivers.
See Gary Chapman, The Love Languages of God.
Look at it this way: take something you know
and believe to be correct. . .why might you feel
as though you are not “getting” the message?
We must look to ourselves
—where is the problem with reception?
The old story about the frog. . .
If we cut off all the ways that the Lord will
speak to us, we cannot conclude that the
Lord will not answer our prayers
Compare Mark 7:24-30, Mark 7:31-37,
and Mark 9:14-29.
This is the ONLY report in all the Gospels
of a person HEALED of being deaf.
This is a medical condition/healing.
Ever watch “Joan of Arcadia”?
What can WE do to hear?
There are really only four or five answers
to EVERY prayer: yes, no, maybe, not yet,
and yes—but not what you expect OR WANT.

Psalm 81 The Lord says,
“Hear O my people, O Israel, if you will listen to ME.
