Are You Growing in Christ Jesus? (2 Peter 3:17-17-18)
Gary McManus, 11/05/2017Part of the Life With Jesus is Better series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
November 5, 2017 2 Peter 3:17-18 (p. 1206 / p. 1227)
Sermons the Saints Suggested
The word “saint” carried too much Catholic baggage
for the Protestant reformers and therefore the whole
concept was dropped. Too bad.
Saint is a perfectly good Bible word:
2 Corinthians 5:20, Ephesians 4:22-24,
Colossians 1:11-13, 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14
How Can We KNOW that we are growing in
Jesus Christ?
We are to be growing as followers of Jesus:
Romans 8:29, Ephesians 4:22-24.
At least eight times the New Testament says
. . .MAKE EVERY EFFORT. . .
Jesus told several parable stories about growth. .
So HOW CAN WE KNOW?
LOVE is not how you feel. . .LOVE is what you DO.
Jesus commanded it: John 13:34
See also 1 John 3:16,
1 Corinthians, chapter 13.
So how is it going with you?
[There are a few Christians who DISAGREE
that love is action.]
SO let’s spend a little time talking about HOW
to grow in love, patience, kindness, self-sacrifice
and more. . .and how to tell if we are.
Pastor’s own example. . .
You can do that. It isn’t hard.
Are you forgiven by others?
And if you are still not sure if you have grown,
you can always ask someone who knows you well.
From Alcoholics Anonymous. . .
You have to until you want to. . .

Are there people who are hard to pray for?
One writer asks this question. . .
How am I paying attention to “the least of these”?
How to offer that same love in Jesus to others?
