The Love of the Heavenly Father (John 14:5-11)
Gary McManus, 07/26/2015Part of the God's Love; Beyond Belief series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
God’s love is so amazing.
On Father’s Day we talked about how God
wanted us as his children. Just being BORN
does not make you a child of God. (John 3:3)
Adoption is mentioned.only five times in the
New Testament.
But remember:
Adoption is CLEARLY a case where
the parent wants a child and
the parent wants a PARTICULAR child.
The five verses are about God . . .adopting. . . you.
(Romans 8:15, Romans 8:23, Romans 9:4,
Galatians 4:5, Ephesians 1:5)
The Heavenly Father loves you.
See John 3, especially vs. 16.
God loves. The Heavenly Father LOVES.
Adopted children don’t have much to worry about.
The Heavenly Father made the decision
because the Heavenly Father wanted to.
The Heavenly Father SO loved us that He
gave Himself up for us in Jesus.
God Himself came to redeem us.
John, chapter 14; the last supper
We “blip” over this but they may be the
most staggering words Jesus spoke to the
ancient peoples. (William Barclay)
These words were totally unexpected!
Jesus was into symbols and signs but here
.Jesus isn’t just an imitation of God. . .
Jesus IS God. That is the unbelievable
love of God. . .God came to US.
God is not holding Himself back from His creation.
God is going to demonstrate the fullness of
God’s love—the death of God’s son Jesus.
It is “love so amazing” that even some
Christians and believers have trouble
accepting it.
It is so easy to believe in other Gods and
many Christians do.
. . .
. . .
. . .
It is hard for many to believe in a Heavenly
Father who sacrificed his own Son so that He
could adopt us as His children.
It is God’s love that is BEYOND BELIEF.
Max Lucado’s prayer from his book John 3:16:
“Heavenly Father, I believe you love me.
You gave your one and only Son so I can live
forever with you. Apart from you, I die.
With you, I live. I choose life. I choose you.”
In Jesus’ name. Amen.
