The Lord is my Helper (Hebrews 13:1-8)
Gary McManus, 04/28/2013Part of the DCC Basics series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
April 28, 2013 Hebrews 13:1-8 (p.1194)
This is a continuation from last week.
Pastor John Ortberg reminds us that the
single command in God’s Word that occurs
more often than ANY OTHER COMMAND:
FEAR NOT! (If you want to walk on water,
You’ve got to get out of the boat, p.117-8)
Hebrews 13:6 // Psalms 118:6,7
God commands us to not be afraid
BASED on WHO God is.
See Jesus’ words from John ch 14. .
Pastor J.B. Phillips author of Your God is Too Small
He tears down our small "Gods,"
the God of OUR hopes, OUR dreams.
These are tribal gods. Judges 10:6-7:
Hear your God in any of that language?
The pain of it all that Pastor Phillips
is still correct, that many people's Gods ARE too
small and what is even worse is that many people
do not have ANY GOD AT ALL.

“The trouble with many people today is that
they have not found a God big enough
for modern needs.”
That statement is the problem.
Looking for a God they can understand
for their needs? That isn’t how my God operates.
God is bigger than my needs and problems.
The God of the Bible is very rarely found
by anyone. God finds them!
You and I can know something about God.
The Bible, NOT history but HIS Story.(Rick Warren)
Chris Tomlin’s “Our God”
God, You are higher than any other
[not just higher than any other God;
higher than we can imagine]
Hymns today chosen for the words:
A Mighty Fortress (Psalm 46)
Check the verses. . .
And our communion hymn:Psalms (119)
One more thing and really the most important
How big IS God in your life?
If our God only gets a little of your life;
then your God IS too small.
Amen
