Jesus Redeemer (Matthew 26:14-16)
Gary McManus, 02/22/2015Part of the Jesus Came to Restore series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
Consider Jesus’ value in your life.
Thirty pieces of silver? (Matthew 26:15)
Jesus restores and heals what was broken.
Jesus can restore us also.
(Acts 3:18-21, 1 Peter 5:10, Mark 3:5, Galatians 6:1).
Judas betrayed / handed over Jesus. Why?
The Bible doesn’t tell us what Judas was thinking.
If Judas had a plan for the money,
he never moved on it.
Thirty pieces of silver. . . .
The price of a slave? A handsome sum?
Certainly it was a price the priests were
willing to pay. It was a price Judas was
willing to take.
The important point is that this
is the fulfillment of prophecy.
It is all happening with the knowledge of God.
God knew this would happen. Jesus did too.
Peter denied Jesus three times. . .But Jesus came
back to the disciples and Jesus fully restored them
to their positions as special helpers. . .friends.
And Jesus would send them out as trusted deputies.
C.S. Lewis said that salvation works backward in time.
Zacchaeus (Luke 19:8) RECONCILING and restoring.
Married people usually have many opportunities
to PRACTICE reconciliation.
A couple named Mark and Lori Keubler learned that
. . .
This is restoration of relationship
This is the promise that the angels
spoken at Jesus’ birth:
“Glory to God in the highest heaven,
and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests.”
Several ways to translate that verse. . .
There are two directions mentioned here.
God and humanity; us and God
Also there is to be peace on earth AMONG us.
Directions: up and down and side to side.
(2 Corinthians 5:18)
Jesus can do it. Jesus came to restore us.
Jesus came to restore us to the Heavenly Father
and Jesus came to restore us to one another.
