Does It Take an Angel Army? (Luke 2:4-14)
Gary McManus, 12/21/2014Part of the Christmas series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
We are hearing AGAIN the Christmas story. Are we?
We often miss the obvious. God is at work.
Our great God works to get His will done THROUGH us.
God doesn’t do things for us. God does things THROUGH us!
When the spiritual world opens or breaks open
On us, it is scary. . .Descriptions in the Bible of
Holiness and the glory of the Lord usually include
brightness, light, fire. So also here
The angel needs the sherpherds to calm down
So they can get their messge.
This isn’t just good news for shepherds.
This is a good news for all people.
A great company of the heavenly host=ARMY. . .
Several versions read it this way.
This immense angel army is praising God.
The Messiah’s presence on earth represents the
culmination of what God has been working for
since humanity was thrown out of the garden of Eden.
The time had come. Messiah had come.
God fulfilled His promises.
And how shall earth benefit? Those who are released from
Satan’s clutches will be at peace with God.
The shepherds know what angels are
--messengers from God. . .and the shepherds respond to
what God has revealed.
Even if the shepherds remembered God’s promises
About salvation or a Messiah, it was never clear HOW
the Lord would reveal Himself.
The shepherds are told as Mary was told. .
The Messiah is coming to YOU as a baby.
To YOU this day is BORN. . .a Savior. . .the Messiah.
Pastor David Jeremiah, Why the Nativity?
. . .becuasee the news they bring is so incredible. . .
1. it is divine news
2. it is divine news for people like you and me
What does it take for any of us to believe in the
greatness of our God—of His plan to save us?
Shepherds heard it from angels so that
We could hear God’s word.
“For to you is born. . .a Savior which is Christ the Lord.”
