The A.C.T.S. of Prayer (James 4:1-3)
Gary McManus, 11/23/2014Part of the DCC Basics series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
One structure for prayer is given by the acronym "A.C.T.S.", representing adoration, confession, thanksgiving and supplication (or intercession.) We start off focusing on who God is, and praising him for that. Confession allows us to clear away the things in the relationship between you and God. Thanksgiving reminds us that each moment God is blessing us; every minute we can recall the wonderful things that God has done for us, and the gifts that we have been given. Supplication or Intercession is when we come to ask God for our needs and the needs of others. Please notice that "requests"/supplication comes LAST!
Jesus affirms what is good in His churches. But Jesus' people need to CONFESS (just as the Pilgrims were moved to confess their sins). See what sins the churches of the Apostles committed (Revelation, chapters 2-3). They forgot their first love; Jesus and His mission.
Jesus said,
"Friend, your sins are forgiven." (Luke 5:20)
If the sins recorded cover your paper, then you are going
To be very grateful, thankful and feel blessed TODAY.
(Luke 7:40-43)
Did you remember to ASK for forgiveness?
