WE die to sins and live a new life (1 Peter 2:24-25)
Gary McManus, 09/28/2014Part of the Life With Jesus is Better series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
Worship is an EXPRESSION of what we believe
It is important THREE ways.
--it is what we believe
--it is what we believe as found in God’s Word
--worship is also teaching us about what we believe
and God’s word.
Meeting together for worship is for YOUR benefit,
not God’s benefit.
The Lord wants that FOR you!
“Songs, hymns and spiritual songs”
(Ephesians 5:19, Colossians 3:16)
The Bible itself is made up of some of those songs:
Romans 1:1-6, Philippians 2:5-11,
1 Corinthians 15:3-7,
Ephesians 1:3-14, 1 Timothy 3:16, Titus 3:3-81,
Peter 1:18-21, 2:9-10, 2:24-25.
This does not make us superior,
it makes us Biblical.
1 Peter; a baptism sermon? Could be.
Includes worship material, song verses.
Compare Isaiah 53.
The prophet Isaiah calls for singing
(42:10, 11, 44:23, 54:1, 65:14)
NOTICE, the Apostle INCLUDES himself! WE!
We are working to live the new life we’ve been given
(Philippians 2:12, 3:14 (esp. ESV), Ephesians 4:1).
Healing takes time. Jesus’ pain was our healing.
Jesus’ bleeding was OUR salvation.
Salvation = salve: the salve is applied to our life.
The salve is Jesus’ blood.
Maybe we are not healed enough yet.
Jesus directly states "follow me" ten times.
Jesus said, “take up your cross DAILY.”
Verna Davis wrote of Christian responses to calls for
Service: “not feeling worthy, feeling inadequate,
or reluctant to do what is unfamiliar”
Is it all about us?!
Are we guaranteed success?
Jesus told stories about how to expect
REJECTION in their God given mission.
Love? Love more? Practice!
Live the new life. (Matthew 21:28-31)
