The Lord Likes Worship, Part 1&2
(review from last two Sundays)
Get connected. Worship is connection CUBED!
--personal connection to the Lord
--personal connection to the body of Christ
--connection of the body to the Lord (the head)
Worship isn’t WHAT we believe.
Worship is an EXPRESSION of what we believe
It is important THREE ways.
--it is what we believe
--it is what we believe as found in God’s Word
--worship is also teaching us about what we believe
and God’s word.
Church furniture: lectern and pulpit; Bible is central!
The Lord’s Supper [1 Corinthians 11:20]
Why do we do this. . .Jesus said to do it.
WE sing to make noise:
(1 Chronicles 15:28, Psalm 33:3 )
Singing . .”Psalms, , hymns, and
songs from the Spirit.”. . .ALL of them.
The music is used by the church in its teaching.
In the New Testament, some of the words ARE
the teaching: Romans 1:1-6, Phillipians 2:5-11,
1 Corinthians 15:3-7,
Ephesians 1:3-14, 1 Timothy 3:16, Titus 3:3-81,
Peter 1:18-21, 2:9-10, 2:24-25.
The Hymn of Christ (Phillipians 2:5-11)
Faith = relationship to the Lord AND
Faith = WHAT we believe ABOUT the Lord.
Faith is what brings us to worship.
Faith is what we express in worship.
Jesus was indeed God.
This is a key factor in knowing that we are Christians.
Claiming Jesus as Lord does not make
us followers of Jesus (Luke 6:46 ff., Matthew 7:21-23).
FOLLOWING Jesus is what makes you a follower of Jesus.
The Lord God came like one of us
because of God’s great love for us. (Hebrews 2:18, 4:15)
God didn’t come to earth to learn about YOU,
God came to earth so YOU could learn about HIM.
God/Jesus had a home—in HEAVEN and left it to
wander the earth with no where to lay his head.
(Matthew 8:20, Luke 9:58)
And He even died. . .a terrible death.
Jesus of Nazareth to the cross and death = obedience.
It was part of the plan of salvation.
OUR knees and OUR tongues. . .
Because of who Jesus is and what Jesus did,
we are to put the knees and the tongue
IN SERVICE to HIM. . .
