Share the New Life (John 6:52-69)
Gary McManus, 08/10/2014Part of the DCC Basics series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
The Bible declares and we believe,
YOU / WE have begun a new life in Jesus Christ.
(Acts 5:17-20)
The book of Acts shows over and over
experiences of this new life; healings, transformation.
[Acts 3:6-10 among others]
We are to proclaim this transformed life.
(Luke 24:46) Seen anyone transformed?
Pastor says that he has come a long way.
“Faith comes by hearing” Romans 10:17 (ESV)
“And hearing through the word of Christ.”
The living Word has come to you (Acts 7:38, Hebrews 4:12)
We’ve talked about this; there are reasons others don’t hear
-- they do not belong to God. (John 8:47)
--they are not listening (John 9:27)
--there are those who harden their hearts (Hebrews 4:7)
( And see Matthew 13)
None of this is our concern.
Our job is to do what Jesus told us to do.
(John 12:47)
There were different responses recorded in Acts.
(Acts 17:32-34, Acts 18:1-8)
Even some who heard Jesus had trouble following.
(John 6:60 ff.)
To eat and drink of Jesus is to accept the way of Jesus
The way of Jesus is the way of life because Jesus is the
bread of life (vss. 50-51,53-56)
Jesus WAS a great teacher but accepting that fact doesn’t
bring life. The new life comes only when we let Jesus live
through us. Jesus will live in us when we take him in.
We can’t truly live on bread alone. (Matthew 4:4, Luke 4:4)
Jesus has the living word (John 6:68, 1 Peter 1:23)
The words of eternal life have been entrusted to US.
How? Is there a better way?
Is there a more effective way?
Pastor wrestles with this always.
Paul wrote, “Faith comes by HEARING”
Others will hear FIRST through you.
You are an interpreter of God’s Word.
--in love, prayer, worship, fellowship, Word.
People EXPECT Pastor to be connected.
But when the hear that YOU are connected
to Jesus, they take notice.
Remember the results. . .not all pleasant.
At DCC we want you connected.
Connect to Jesus Christ.
