Pure Unadulterated Gospel (1 Corinthians 15:1-11)
Gary McManus, 07/06/2014Part of the DCC Basics series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
What are the basic statements about the
Christian faith—Christianity.
Here it is.
Paul wrote: I want to remind you
of the gospel I preached to you,
which you received. . .
Corinthians. . .hey, NO EXCUSES. . .
here it is. . .AGAIN!
“What I received I passed on to you as of first importance. . .”
First things first! And Paul didn’t make it up.
Paul got it from Jesus (1 Cor. 11:23, Galatians 1:12)
This is PURE GRADE unadulterated GOSPEL.
Here it is:
that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures,
--that he was buried,
-- that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures,
--and that he appeared to Cephas. . .
--After that, he appeared to more than five hundred. . .
--most of whom are still living. . .
Christ died for OUR sins (yours and the other guy’s)
(vs. 2) By this gospel you are saved. .
. . .by this gospel you are BEING saved (present tense)!
So, here is one basis of unity
We all have ONE LORD. . .one FAITH. . .one baptism
. . .and there are NO EXCEPTIONS (Ephesians 4:5)
But this isn’t JUST about forgiveness.
This has to do with YOUR life. . .
this statement has to do with your LIVING.
We are new creatures!
Paul mentions the resurrected appearance of Jesus
to PETER FIRST. There is a lesson here.
This new life you are being given starts with some
tough tasks. . .forgiving those who have wronged you.
How is it possible? Through Jesus Christ.
This isn’t some spiritual resurrection
. . .people saw Jesus AGAIN.
This isn’t the IDEA of a resurrection.
It really happened in human history.
We too will be resurrected from death.
In this life, we get a new life. . .we are new creatures
. . .and when we die, we will live again, just like Jesus.
The Gospel of Jesus Christ. Amen.
