God's Children (Matthew 1:18-24)
Gary McManus, 06/15/2014Part of the Life With Jesus is Better series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
Father’s Day Matthew 1: 18-24 (p.955)
A blessed Father’s Day to all men who are
a Father ONE WAY or ANOTHER!
The most famous Father / non-Father in history;
Joseph of Nazareth.
Joseph of Nazareth wanted to get married.
In his day that was normal. It isn’t “normal” today.
[Church people should support people who want
to be married. ]
Joseph wanted to be married and found the woman
he wanted to marry, Mary.
Then there was trouble; Mary was pregnant.
Joseph was not the father.
Joseph of Nazareth and Pastor McManus
Different circumstances, same result.
God gave them children.
The Bible mentions another “sudden” parent
The woman who found Moses in the river.
This Father’s Day lesson has greater meaning.
Psalm 23: shepherd, sheep: the sheep take a path
that is not of their choosing..
The sheep must follow the shepherd.
This is a lesson for those of us who have children.
—our children or someone else's children.
They are God’s children and we are called to care for them
Joseph accepted his charge.
Joseph of Nazareth didn’t do the “right” thing.
Joseph decided to do the BEST thing.
Joseph decided to do things God’s way.
Ms Sonora Louise Smart Dodd a loving daughter
from Spokane, Washington made Father’s Day
possible. She honored her Father,
William Jackson Smart.
William Jackson Smart did what the author
of Hebrews advised all of us to do. . .
(Hebrews 12:1) Run the race set before us. . .
It isn't really YOUR race course!
The course has been set for you.
Paul wanted to run to win (1 Corinthians 9:24),
but at the end, he was glad to finish. (2 Timothy 4:7)
Blessings today but especially to Fathers. Amen.
