Still a New year (John 9:1-41)
Gary McManus, 01/25/2014Part of the God's New Year series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
How are the new year’s resolutions?
It is STILL a new year.
IT IS TIME for a NEW YOU. That IS the church’s message.
There are TWO parts to this message that the church
declares in Jesus name:
First, you ARE a new person in Jesus Christ.
If you fail to live the new life that you have been given,
you get to try again.
Our Lord God made some new year’s resolutions.
The new year that Jesus announced was the year of the Kingdom of God. . . Luke 2:19. . Jesus is quoting the prophet Isaiah, ch 61
19 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”[f]
[See Luke 2:14 ]
This is the year GOD'S DOING you a favor.
(Other translations / versions )
The Message: “This is God’s year to act!”
God DOES NOT FAIL AT HIS
NEW YEAR’S RESOLUTIONS!
[Isaiah 40:8 , 1 Peter 1:23-25]
After Jesus makes his powerful announcement,
Jesus proceeds to put into action the words he has spoken. .
Luke 4: 36-40
Jesus HEALED them all.
Now John’s gospel reading today. . .2 things:
1. Just as Jesus said, he would give sight to the blind.
(Remember John 1:9)
In Jesus, LIGHT came into the world.
Jesus brought light into this man’s life.
The other point that is important about John’s
report here are the Pharisees. They don’t get that
Jesus is the light. The light is right in front of them
and they don’t get it. They don’t see it.
And the Pharisees ask: “Are we blind?”
Whatever blindness you may suffer from.
Whatever you CAN’T see—Jesus can help you with that.
And we will talk more about this next time. Amen.
