The call to become a Pastor.
The call to be a follower of Jesus Christ.
The word “call” appears 480 times in God’s Word.
There are many different meanings of the word.
The church of Jesus Christ has always believed that every believer has received a call to become a follower of Jesus Christ. That is how the Bible describes the people of Jesus’ church. (Romans 8:28, 2 Thessalonians 1:11-12
The examples of such callings (even the precedent) for the idea that we are all called to follow Jesus by Jesus Himself, is the example of the disciples. (Matthew 4:21, Mark 1:20)
All have RECEIVED a calling from the Lord to follow him. That happens many different ways. Even through others (John 1:40-42)
And what was Jesus’ call? -- to follow him.
[See Romans 6:3, 23, 8:9, 8:11, 1 Corinthians 15:22, 2 Corinthians 5:17-19]
. . .to have Christ IN YOU is to live Jesus--not your life anymore but Christ in you (Gal 2:20)
All have been called. WHAT have we been called to?
1. We are called to a purpose: Romans 8:28
Our purpose is to bless: 1 Peter 3:9
Our calling has a purpose—God’s purposes.
2. Our calling is to particular work or particular tasks: Acts 13:2, Acts 16:10—even to suffer--1 Peter 2:20-22
3. We are called to a status: peace. . .1 Cor 7:15
4. A calling American generally ignore:
Belonging and fellowship, Romans 1:6
1 Corinthians 1:9 We are called together!
5. We are also called to a lifestyle:
2 Timothy 1:9, 1 Peter 1:15.
And several more:
--called into our Lord’s light: 1 Peter 2:9
--live in grace: Galatians 1:6
--to be free: Galatians 5:13
Do YOU have a calling? Apparently so!
We are called to a NEW life.
Live the NEW life.
You are living out God’s purposes. Amen.
