Heroes (Matthew 17:14-21)
Gary McManus, 07/02/2017Part of the New Life series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
A blessed and happy Fourth of July
Sunday to all of our nation.
As blessed as DCC is to be planted
In America, DCC is not married to America.
The Church is married to Jesus.
(Mark 2:20, Revelation 21:9 )
DCC is grateful that this American soil
has been fruitful soil for our Lord Jesus.
Heroes!
There are more American heroes than we know.
Doctor Benjamin Rush. . .know anything about him?
He was a signer of the Declaration of Independence.
How about Richard Henry Lee of Virginia?
Ancestor of General Robert E. Lee.
Caesar Rodney from Delaware. . . .
A quote attributed to Benjamin Franklin:
"We must all hang together, or ... we shall
certainly all hang separately."
Some Americans have become disturbed
about the personal past of a number of
America’s heroes.
One whose reputation has been tarnished
is that of Thomas Jefferson.
PBS: “Finding Your Roots”
Good program.
The past is the past and the truth is the truth.
Images tarnished? Not at all.
Is it not all the more amazing that we have
the freedoms and liberties that we have?
The Bible lesson? Same point.
The heroes of the faith?
Their reputations are tarnished. The Bible
tarnishes them. (Matthew 16:23, Mark 8:33,
1 Corinthians 15:9)
Perfect followers of Jesus?
(See Matthew 13:58 with Matthew 6:30, 8:26,
14:31, 16:8, 17:20. Faithful disciples?
What about you?
