Gary McManus, 06/25/2017Part of the God's Love; Beyond Belief series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
June 25, 2017 1 Timothy 5:3-7 (p. 1176, 1194)
Today--a follow up to last week.
Our God is Father to the fatherless!
Psalm 68:5, Psalm 27; also Jesus
In John 14:18.
In some 20 places throughout the Old
Testament, there is a call from God
to God’s people to HELP the fatherless
and the widow
James 1:27:
Religion that God our Father accepts
as pure and faultless is this: to look
after orphans and widows in their distress.
In the ancient world the widow and orphan
were often destitute.
God’s Word says clearly: CHURCH,
THERE is one of your ministries!
The early church of Jesus DID take care of
widows and orphans. (1 Timothy 5:1-5)
See also Acts 6:1.
America has done well by widows and orphans.
You know why—Biblical foundations!
Not all religions and not all governments
take care of their widows and orphans.
Widows and orphans suffer in many countries
Including (among others), Uganda, India,
Bosnia, Afghanistan, the Congo, the Sudan.

(caring for widows around the world)
Aids orphans—children left alone without parents
because of aids, numbers in the millions.
In America widows inheritance and property
are protected by law. . .in most of the world,
those rights are not protected.
Jesus’ response? See Luke 7:12-13 ff.
Pastor Craig Thompson, Lifeway Ministries:
“Every church can find a way to be a part of
caring for orphans. . . “

God’s word says. . .
“Father of orphans and defender of widows is God
in his holy habitation.” --Psalm 68:5
