Judgment Day (Matthew 25:31-46)
Gary McManus, 02/05/2017Part of the Why Hell? series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
February 5, 2017 Matthew 25:31-46 (p. 984 // p.994f.)
This is a follow up to last week’s message.
This also is a story that Jesus tells.
Let’s pay attention.
When we talk about heaven and salvation,
many including Christians put their focus
in the wrong place.
The answer to MOST questions is “Jesus.”
Jesus’ story is set at the end of all things
—the end of human history.
Separation of sheep and goats was a common
activity.
Notice in this story, the people are not ASKED
anything, they are told what the judgment is!
[Allthough Jesus’ story suggests that there will
be no questions asked. Jesus did say that we
would have to “give account” for “empty words”
(Matthew 12:36)]
Notice what it takes to be like a goat/person.
It is what they DIDN”T DO!
The road to hell is paved with. . . .
Pharisees worked very hard to keep themselves
from doing wrong.
Jesus asked. . . What GOOD did you do?
Jesus said “woe” to the Pharisees.
(Matthew 23:23)
[See also Matthew 21:28-32 where Jesus
emphasized DOING what the Father wanted.]
What will the King say to any one of us
on the great day of Judgment?
( Check out Matthew 25:14-30)
Luke 10: “How to inherit eternal life?”
Answer: “Love.”
“ Jesus replied, Do this and you will live.”
Our Affirmation of Faith today. . .
The reasons for the inheritance are based on activity,
not avoidance.
What is the answer to eternal life? (Jesus)
The sheep and the goats FATE is decided
by the King Himself.
The sheep and the goats FATE is determined
by their response to Jesus, right?
On Judgement Day when we are aligned
with those on the King’s right,
the King will say. . .
Amen.
