The Prince of Peace (Luke 2:8-20)
Gary McManus, 12/04/2016Part of the Christmas series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
December 4, 2016 Second Sunday in Advent
Luke 2:8-20 ( p.1014 /p.1027 )
From last week at DCC (the message):
Jesus WAS born.
We celebrate at DCC that Jesus WAS born.
That is what we celebrate at Christmas.
Jesus was BORN.
Jesus was born of a woman. Jesus was a man
AND Jesus is God. (John 10:30)
God in Jesus experienced this life as we do:
fatigue, temptation, saw sickness and death.
God so LOVES us that God came in Jesus
to get us BACK into God’s household.
God loves you. God is with you. God is
for you. These are proven by Jesus,
born of a woman.
January 6th was the oldest celebration recorded.
But it was more the celebration of the appearance
of the baby Jesus TO the wise men.
Why? The church were almost all Gentiles (not
Jews). The wise men were not Jews.
The church noticed the first non-Jews to worship
Jesus.
Jesus’ appearance= EPIPHANY (Greek)
“To the seven churches in Asia: . . .
(Revelation 1:4ff.)
Today’s Bible Verse of the Week:
the first celebration of Jesus’ birth.
(Luke 2:20)
This is a celebration of John 3:16.
“God gave. . .” . . .in the flesh!
How does Jesus save us?
Jesus is our peace!
Isaiah 9:6
Bad things happen in this world because
the world is not at peace with God.
Sin is not of God. Sin is not from God.
Jesus brings peace between God and those
who accept the terms of the peace
(Jesus’ followers)
(Ephesians 2:17-19, Colossians 1:15-20)
The angels said to the shepherds
on earth peace. . .peace between who. . .
peace between God and humanity.
The good news is for YOU.
The angels said, I bring YOU
good news of a GREAT joy.
Celebrate the birth of the Savior. . . AMEN
