Jesus IS Born (Luke 1:39-57)
Gary McManus, 11/27/2016Part of the Christmas series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
November 27, 2016 Luke 1:39-57 (p. 1013 / p. 1025)
At DCC this Christmas we want to be
sure that we are celebrating Jesus’ birthday.
“Do They Know Its Christmas Time in
Africa?” Today we ask: do they know
WHAT Christmas is or do they in America
know WHAT Christmas WAS about?
No one is going to tell the Christian’s story
EXCEPT Christians.
Christmas is also a Christian’s truth.
A Charlie Brown Christmas:
Charlie Brown asks: “Does anyone know
what Christmas is all about?
Linus answers the question with a reading from
the Gospel of Luke on the birth of Jesus.
Today DCC proclaims that Jesus was BORN.
Why, you may ask must we belabor a fairly obvious point? Well, I’m GLAD you asked!
There are several reasons WHY we must make clear that Jesus was born.
1.(and foremost) Jesus actually lived on earth.
“. . .things we have seen and heard among us.”
(Luke 1:1-2 )
We also claim that Jesus was God.
Jesus Himself said, I and the Heavenly Father are one.
(Six times plus in John, but especially John 10:30)
Did Jesus just LOOK like a man?
It even happened to the Apostles (Acts 14:11).
WHEN WAS Jesus born?
Luke 2. . .”in the days of Casear Augustus. . .
when Quirinius was Governor of Syria.
How did we get December 25th?
A church leader decided and after a couple
of hundred years everyone was pretty much
in agreement.
Then the calendar changed!
Don’t celebrate Christmas. Celebrate the birth
of Jesus. We celebrate it on December 25th.
Jesus’ birth means that our God loves you.
In Jesus’ birth God says that you and I are
worth redeeming. God wants us in his Kingdom
and God has come in Jesus to get us back into
His household.
God has come to be right here with you
. . .IN THE FLESH.
Our God isn’t going to be just sympathetic with you,
ur God is going to be EMPATHETIC with you.
(John 4:6, Acts 2:23, Hebrews 2:18, 4:15 )
Also, God is FOR us.
Rick Warren, The Purpose of Christmas
(Matthew 20:32, Mark 10:36, 10:51, Romans 8:31,
1 Peter 2:9)
AND God wants us to decide to receive him.
(Revelation 3:20)
Will you? Will you receive all that the Lord
wants for you?
He has come as a baby born of woman.
(1 Corinthians 15:45)
