The Faith of the Saints (1 Corinthians 1:1-9)

The Faith of the Saints
October 30, 2016 1 Corinthians 1:1-9 (p. 1128 / p.1142)
Today: the faith that we claim. . .
the faith that we hold,
the (content of) the faith we pass on.
The banner at the front:”He is Risen”
Because of Jesus resurrection, the saints
may also anticipate resurrection.(Romans 8:11)
If we don’t believe in Jesus’ resurrection,
our faith is in vain. (1 Corinthians 15:1-8)
At DCC we DO remember the saints
of DCC. Today we consider their faith—
the content of the faith of the saints.
It begins with the Bible.
Jesus own words were “follow me”
(Matthew 4:19, 8:22, 9:9, 10:38, 16:24, 19:21
with parallels in the other Gospel books)
Jesus isn’t JUST the TRUTH,
Jesus is the way and the life!
(John 14:6)
The Bible is the authority for those who
follow Jesus. (Matthew 24:35, Luke 1:1-4)
We believe that these folks testified with their
LIVES that what the Bible said is true.
They lived Jesus’ words.
Our affirmation of faith today: 2 Thessalonians 2:13-14,
“through belief in the truth: He called you to this through
our gospel. . .”
“We know we are saved because of what we read
in the Bible. . . through belief in the truth. . .
BIBLE TIPS FOR LIVING. ..
Tip number TWO. . .
Make the decision to build your life on God’s Word
—even when it is hard to do so. (Matthew 7:24-27)
God’s Word is life.
(1 John 1:1, John 5:24, John 6:68, Phillipians 2:16,)
Redemption happened at the cross of Jesus and yet
redemption isn’t just a one time event. We are being
redeemed (present, on-going action).
See Titus 2:11-14 (another of DCC’s affirmations
of faith)
Were you transformed at yoyr baptism?
Sanctification is a word for the process of redemption.
See 1 Peter 1:18-21, another DCC Affirmation of Faith
Did the rich young ruler have an abundant life?
See Luke 18:18-22
What matters is following Jesus (Galatians 6:15).
Jesus IS the way.
Amen.
