Memorial Day Sunday
Luke 21:29-33 (p. 1043 / p. 1056)
The 28-Star Flag: This Flag became the Official
United States Flag on July 4th, 1846. It represents
the addition of the star added for the admission
of Texas (December 29th, 1845) at the end of 1845,
the year that Daleville Christian was first chartered.
All U.S. flags of the United States continue to be
official U.S. flags.
Daleville Christian Church is the home of the brave.
Christianity has survived just about every political
system that man has devised on this planet.
Jesus said, my words will never pass away.
Today, Memorial Day weekend, we are called
to REMEMBER those who gave their lives for
the promise of our government—a “government
of the people, by the people, for the people.”
(the words of Abraham Lincoln)
Memorial Day is a direct result of the American
Civil War dead—the Civil War was a terrible
victory for freedom.
Augustus “Gus” Sayford, son of Pastor ,
killed during the campaign for Vicksburg.
The Sayford family of Cross Roads Church
and the Stewart Family of Daleville Christian
Church were church builders.
The Liberty Bell inscription:
(from Leviticus 25:10)
"Proclaim Liberty through all the land
to all the inhabitants thereof — Levitt. xxv 10."
More Daleville Christian Church families who fought
for the Union and freedom:
--Ephraim Forrest, 57th Indiana Regiment
James Stewart sons in the Civil War:
--Alexander Stewart
--James Marion Stewart, 19th Indiana Regiment
killed at Brawner’s Farm, August 28, 1862
--Henry Stewart, 7th Indiana Cavalry Regiment
Praise the Lord there is still a Daleville Christian
Church here to remember them. Praise the Lord
for the freedom these men fought for has not yet
passed away.
Praise the Lord for God’s Word which is still free
in this country and will never pass away—free or not.
Amen.
