Philippians 2:12-18 (p. 1162 / p.1179)
See Psalm 100 [Full Chapter]
--used in worship
--originally sung? coming into Jerusalem?
No modern religious examples of
ancient Jewish festivals.
There may be SECULAR examples
of “glad throngs.”
Worship the Lord WITH GLADNESS. . .
THIS IS NOT AN OPTIONAL EXTRA. . .
It is RIGHT for us to be glad.
See Deuteronomy Chapter 28 (vss. 45-47)
The Apostle Paul wrote:
I am glad and rejoice with all of you.
So you too should be glad and rejoice with me.
GREAT JOY (Luke 1:19, Luke 8:1)
. . .BE DELIGHTED (Acts 2:46)
JOY is a gift of the Holy Spirit (Gal 5:22)
Romans 15:13: we are to be filled with intense joy.
. . .joy in the highest degree (John 3:29, John 16:24)
See also Proverbs 17:22
Too many Christians have drawn the wrong
conclusions from the wrong Bible verses.
See Psalm 126:2, Ecclesiastes 3:4,
Luke 6:21
Vietnam POWs cited humor as an ESSENTIAL
TOOL in their ability to survive and resist their captors.
(Resilience, p.177)
Psalm 126:2
Then was our mouth filled with laughter,
and our tongue with singing:
then said they among the heathen,
The Lord hath done great things for them.
When we consider the great things
the Lord has done for us, do we not
have joy enough to share?
When we consider the great love that
our Lord has for us, do we have joy?
Amen.
