I Am the Life (John 11:11-44)
Gary McManus, 04/03/2016Part of the New Life series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
April 3, 2016 The Second Sunday of Easter
Pastor is a minister of God’s Word.
(1 Peter 1:23, 1 John 1:1,
Romans 10:17, 1 Corinthians 15:2)
Recall this conversation between Martha
and Jesus.
Pastor regularly reviews the obituary
page of a newspaper.
But they are on-line or see
obitoftheday.com
It is about theology.
Most people DO believe in resurrection.
They don’t believe in Christian resurrection.
Jesus said I AM the resurrection and the life.
Pastor admits that God’s Word is full of drama:
Saul / Paul, the disciples. Pastor talked about
Victor Marx last week
(Marx’s book: With God All Things Are Possible)
Does it have to be dramatic?
Jesus said ANYONE who believes in me will LIVE.
Americans love their drama. . .
“Cake Wars”?
When this message was first preached, there was
a story of a woman who found a finger in her
salad at a Wendy’s restaurant.
Which story did people follow?
The sensationalistic story, or the
true story of this woman’s character?
Jesus said I am the Life. ANYONE
who believes in me will LIVE. (See John 3:7,
11:25-6)
You must be born again. . .not by any dramatic means.
but by spirit and water in a changed life.
(John 3:5)
Addicted to drama?
Jesus is the life. . .Jesus is NOT the drama.
The Rev. Dr. Norman Vincent Peale tells of
a visitor to his office. . .
. . .a million dollars?
No. Life. “With God all things ARE possible.”
(Matthew 19:26, Philippians 4:13)
Because Jesus is the life, we will have life.
Been to one of the healing services?
Nothing dramatic. But there was healing.
The measure of the church
is lives lived in abundance.
See Galatians 5:22; dramatic?
But that list is really living.
Amen
