Gratitude and Healing (Luke 17:11-19)
Gary McManus, 01/17/2016Part of the New Life series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
Luke 17:11-19
Resolutions? Goals.
Healings often come with instructions
(see last week’s message and notes)
Many people are under the impression that God
wants something FROM us.
God wants something FOR us.
Jesus declared it. (Luke 4:18,
quoting Isaiah 61.)
.(Matthew 7:3, Luke 6:42)
Do you believe in miracles?
Do you believe in miracles for YOU?
Miracles Are for Real
by James Garlow and Keith Wall
Several levels of miracles:
--the simplest answered prayer
(example: finding something you can’t find)
--the complex answered prayer
(example: needing intervention for
someone else)
--a coincidence (many believers say “coincidences”
don’t exist –that nothing is a coincidence but
rather they are “God’s appointments”: stuff
or people just “show up.”
--against all odds (something that could have
happened but not very likely)
--miracle : what we usually use the word
miracle to mean—something for which
there is no reasonable explanation
Leprosy in the Bible (lepers):
--must keep their distance
(Leviticus 13:45-6, Numbers 5:2)
--formed colonies (2 Kings 7:3)
--healing had to be confirmed by
the priest (Leviticus 14:2-32)
The me cry out, “Jesus, Master,
have pity on us.”
The men are CLEANSED.
One of the men returns to give thanks
to Jesus: the man PRAISED GOD and
thanked Jesus.
Jesus said, “Rise and go; your faith has
made you well.” OR
“ . .your faith has saved you.”
The Bible has the phrase GIVE THANKS
about 50 times. See 1 Chronicles 16:34.
Gratitude does not come from comparison.
Also 1Chronicles 23:30
The Apostle Paul wrote give thanks in ALL circumstances.
1 Thessalonians 5:18
