God's Promises are for You, Too (Matthew 1:18-25)
Gary McManus, 12/06/2015Part of the Christmas series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
December 6, 2015 Second Sunday in Advent
Matthew 1:18-25 (p. 955 / p.966)
This season we talk about prophecy.
Jesus fulfilled some 300 prophecies
of the Old Testament. There were a dozen
Old Testament prophecies fulfilled JUST
in Jesus’ being born.
Why is this important?
1) To see that God had a plan and God made
promises—promises that God kept.
God IS trustworthy.
2). To show HOW God fulfilled his promises.
Betrothal / marriage / divorce for Jews
in Jesus’ day. . .
And my guess is that Joseph is more like us. . .
De we read God’s promises in God’s Word
but we have a hard time believing that God’s
promises are really FOR US.
We have a hard time believeing that God really
intends to BLESS US!?
God is fulfilling his promise to save us.
God is moving on his plan to save us
. This is for Joseph. This is for you.
The promise was fulfilled in ALL that took place.
2 Corinthians 1:20 (NKJV)
From the Old Testament. . .the prophet
Isaiah 41:9-10, Jeremaih 31:31 ff.
From the New Testament:
Romans 8:37-39
John 10:27-30
John 14:27
2 Corinthians 1:3-4
These are just the beginning of God’s promises
to us through Jesus Christ out Lord.
