The Coming Power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 2:1-21)
Gary McManus, 05/24/2015Part of the New Life series, preached at a Sunday Morning service
May 24th , 2015 The Day of Pentecost
Acts 2: 1-21 (p. 1078)
It has always been Pastor McManus’ intention
that the congregation experience something of that
first Pentecost. It is a reminder that God’s Word did
not come to us in our own language. It also reminds
us that men and women died in order that you and I
might have God’s Word in our own language.
You therefore will hear the scriptures read in
Koine Greek (New Testament), Hebrew (Old
Testament) and in German (another modern
language).
From last week:
Don’t let your prayers get in the way of your prayers.
(Don’t let your prayers get in the way of a real
relationship with the Lord.)
Today, it is Pentecost.
Pentecost = God in our life—the Holy Spirit.
Using again Pastor Craig Groeshel’s book,
The Christian Atheist. (That is; we say we believe
something as Christians, but we don’t really.)
--------
“With man this is impossible,
but with God all things are possible.” –Jesus
(Matthew 19:26, Mark 10:27 and see
1 Peter 4:11)
When Christians say that they can’t change,
they are half right. With man, it IS impossible.
But with God all things are possible.
The issue is NOT us. . .the issue is God.
Pentecost is about God being here with us.
Pentecost is about God being here IN us.
The Holy Spirit comes from Jesus through
the Heavenly Father. (John 15:26)
It is time to FACE REALITY!
FACE REALITY: GOD is here to help you.
Faced the reality of GOD in your life!
Pentecost is the REALITY that God is now here with us.
Jesus said:
“But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you;”
(Acts 1:3)
See also 1 Thessalonians 1:5.
Is it power to change/transform immediately
or is it more like the power to run a marathon?
Pastor’s experience:
.rarely is new life INSTANTANEOUS. . .
new life is LIVED. . .takes time. . .change takes time. .
Read the New Testament.
See Romans 15:13, 2 Peter 1:3
Celebrate Pentecost--a new reality that includes the
power of God IN US through the Holy Spirit.
Amen.
